PENDLETON — The Pendleton Convention Center has a new LED electronic message board.

After failing about two and half years ago, the Pendleton Convention Center replaced its inoperative sign near the entrance to the center’s parking lot.

Pendleton Convention Center General Manager Pat Beard said updating the sign was long overdue.

“It’s exactly what we had hoped for,” Beard said. “It allows us to market events here and lets the community know what’s going on.”

Think Sign, a graphic design company in Tennessee, manufactured the high-functioning 6 millimeter pixel board and shipped it to the Pendleton business SignMen to assemble and add the finish touches.

Without any additional funding from grants or the city, the Pendleton Convention Center paid $139,000 for the sign.

Beard said he was committed to keep a sound budget and was not interested in borrowing money to install the electronic board. The center originally budgeted $175,000 but managed to save $36,000 down the line.

“People are excited to see it up,” Beard said. “It’s a nice addition to the convention center.”
