YOUTH CERAMICS EXPLORATION, 1-4 p.m., Art Center East, 1006 Penn Ave., La Grande. This free class for ages for ages 8 to 17, gives youth a chance to create beautiful objects out of clay. No ceramics experience necessary. An instructor will teach basic handbuilding techniques and give an intro to creative forms, carving and glazing. (541-624-2800). Wednesday, Sept. 4.

The Umatilla Sage Riders’ last competition of the summer offers young riders a shot at barrel, pole and stake racing in different age groups.
