Letter: Citizen questions community gardens destruction
Published 4:05 am Saturday, August 18, 2012
Pilot Rock has a community garden in the downtown area that one of our brothers has been making use of and tending along with others since relocating there a few years ago. Anyone who knows this man well knows of the long metal tool that goes everywhere with him. If you have a yard, it is extremely rare when he comes to visit that he does not take it out and go to town on removing any weeds in his view in your lawn or garden. We know the love he has for gardening and that any garden of his is tended with great care.
Yesterday the garden was weed-whipped and destroyed. The work and many labor of love hours he and others have clocked since April or May was decided without any sort of notice. To what purpose was the garden destroyed? How could anyone be so insensitive and thoughtless?
If the community garden is not really a community garden it shouldnt be there. Many of us have enjoyed seeing the garden. During this weeks Pilot Rock Community Days it should not be surprising if a few of their local citizens have hurt feelers.
Whoever destroyed the garden and made off with hoses or tools that belong to others is ill and in need of some therapy. If this was accomplished by an official entity it needs to be explained.
