During the aeroplane flights by Walter Edwards at the round-up park Saturday and Sunday afternoons the players on the Pendleton and Boise ball teams will be given a tryout that is not called for by the rules of the Western Tri-State league. They will catch balls dropped from the aeroplane by Edwards, and it is the hope of those in charge that a record can be established for catching a ball dropped from a great height.

For several decades, until it was discontinued in 1955 to make room for permanent addition of the bull riding to the arena program of RCA events, the Northwest bucking championship was an integral part of the Pendleton Round-Up. Since 1955 the same contest has been staged by the Heppner Rodeo but during the last two days of the 51st annual Round-Up here Sept. 12-15, exhibition bucking such as occurred in the Northwest contest will be a feature of the afternoon performance. Each of the two days three horses will be brought into the arena, snubbed, saddled and ridden the way it was done before the day of professional bucking chutes.

The pit bull terrier controversy has made its way to Pendleton. The City Council will discuss Tuesday a request to pass a law banning the breed within the city limits. In recent years pit bull terriers have been credited nationwide with numerous attacks on humans, some resulting in fatalities. Chuck Longbotham of Pendleton has submitted a letter, signed by 30 people, to the city asking for some type of pit bull law. Pit bull owners and breeders claim the laws which specify one breed of dog as vicious are unfair. Longbotham recommends a banning of pit bulls from the city limits or short of that a requirement that owners of the dogs be required to keep them enclosed behind a high fence and maintain $750,000 in liability insurance.
