Miscellaneous

Walla Walla Police detectives arrested a man Thursday afternoon following an alleged rape Wednesday night.

Police arrested Herman Rankin Jr., 50, after a 21-year-old woman reported he raped her at his Ash Street apartment, according to a news release from the Walla Walla Police Department.

The victim got away early Thursday morning while Rankin was walking her to another residence, the news release said.

She hid and called family to pick her up. They took her to was a local hospital where she reported the assault at Thursday morning.

The victim said Rankin threatened her with a knife leading up to the sexual assault.

Rankin has previous felony convictions in Mississippi for burglary and theft, and a rape conviction in Louisiana, the news release said. He served 28 years in prison before getting out in March this year.
