Explosion causes minor trembler near Umatilla

- The Pacific Northwest Seismic Network reported the United States Geological Survey recorded an explosion Jan. 28, 2025, near Umatilla that registered as a 2.0 magnitude earthquake.
UMATILLA COUNTY — An an event Tuesday morning, Jan. 28, near Umatilla registered as a magnitude 2.0 earthquake, according to the United States Geological Survey. The probable cause, however, was an explosion.
The event happened at 11:30 a.m. at Highway 395 and 730, about 2.2 miles southeast of Umatilla at a depth of about .19 miles, the USGS reported.
The USGS also reported 13 people filed reports of feeling the trembler.
