Hermiston girls and boys wrestling teams head to state

HERMISTON — The Hermiston High School girls and boys wrestling programs battled on the mats Feb. 7-8, with each bringing home some hardware during the District 6 3A Championship.
The girls team traveled to Hanford High School, where they won the district title. They will send 14 qualifiers and three alternates to the Mat Classic XXXVI as they compete in the Washington state championships Feb. 20-21 at the Tacoma Dome.
Hermiston hosted the boys district tournament. The Dawgs placing second and qualifying 11 wrestlers and two alternates for state, also held during the Mat Classic at the Tacoma Dome.
HHS athletic/activities director Larry Usher applauded the student-athletes.
“Both our boy’s and girl’s wrestling programs continue to shine,” he said. “We are quickly running out of space in our trophy cases.”
