From the editor’s desk: Acknowledging the moms in our life
Published 9:00 am Saturday, May 11, 2024
Mother’s Day is around the corner and we think it is a pretty big day.
It is a day to celebrate the incredible women who have shaped our lives — whether it’s your own mom or a grandmother, an aunt, or any other maternal figure. It is a day all about showing appreciation for their love, sacrifices and unwavering support.
Let’s face it, being a mom isn’t easy. It is a 24/7 job with no vacations or sick days. From changing diapers to offering words of wisdom (even when we don’t want to hear them) moms are there through thick and thin, ready to lend a helping hand or a sympathetic ear.
Mother’s Day, though, isn’t just about giving flowers a chocolate (although those are always appreciated). The day is about taking time to say “thank you” and truly mean it. It’s about acknowledging all the little things that moms do day in and day out without expecting anything in return.
Mother’s Day can be bittersweet for some. For those who have lost their moms or are unable to be with them for whatever reason, this day can bring a mix of emotions. It’s OK to feel sad or nostalgic but also important to celebrate the love that was shared and to cherish the memories left behind.
So, whether you are planning a big family brunch, sending a heartfelt card or simply giving mom a call to say “I love you” make sure to take the time to let her know just how much she means. Moms are the real super heroes of the world, and they deserve all the love and appreciation we can give them, not just one Mother’s Day but every day.
