Grab your gear for the Kids Fishing Derby
UMATILLA — Hermiston Parks and Rec are prepping the pond with more than 2,500 fish! Reel in your little anglers for the annual Kids Fishing Derby at Fountain Pond next to McNary Dam from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, June 1. Parents can assist their children, age 2 to 11, but each child has to land their own fish. The event is free, with a three-fish limit (keep or release). For more details, call 541-667-5018.
Swap some seeds or craft supplies
STANFIELD — The garden is calling! If you’re in need of seeds or you have some left over, bring them to the library at 180 W. Coe Ave. Stanfield’s Seed Library gives patrons a chance to share what they have and take what they need. Later this month crafters get their chance. The Craft Supply Swap offers a chance to get rid of your old supplies and try something new. From May 1 to 14, drop off a bag (or two) of usable craft supplies, from yarn and fabric to beads and rubber stamps. Then drop by the library 1:30-4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 15, and sort through the donated supplies to find some inspiration. Call the library at 541-449-1254 to ask what kind of items they are accepting. For more details, call 541-377-9111.
Funland posts map for visually impaired
HERMISTON — Last month Funland Playground unveiled a new tactile map, a collaboration between Hermiston Parks and Rec and the Hermiston Lions Club. The map is designed to make the playground accessible for individuals who are blind or visually impaired, by allowing them to perceive information through touch. This map uses raised surfaces, textures, braille and symbols to represent Funland Playground. Call 541-667-5018 for more information.
