PENDLETON — Tania Wildbill, of Pendleton, did not have enough participation Saturday, July 27, to hold an assembly of electors to get on the November ballot in the race for Oregon Senate 29 seat.

The Oregon Secretary of State Elections Division in a July 19 letter informed Wildbill she could hold the assembly to gather at least 250 signatures.

“Each signer must be an active registered voter at the time of signing,” according to the letter.

Wildbill reported the event at the Pendleton Convention Center drew 60 people.

Luke Basato, the deputy director of the Oregon Secretary of State Elections Division, and one staff member attended to count to the attendees, according to Wildbill, but left when she shifted the assembly to a “Come Together Campaign Community Gathering.”

Wildbill also said she has volunteers who started gathering signatures so she can get on the ballot. She said she needs 791 signatures Aug. 13.

She said she will collect all the signature sheets on Aug. 11, and if there are at least 791, she will drive to Salem and hand deliver them to Basato.

Wildbill must submit the signature sheet to the state Elections Division by Aug. 13 to ensure sufficient time for verification prior to 5 p.m. on the filing deadline of Aug. 27.

Wildbill in 2023 declared she was running as a Democrat in the race then withdrew, refiled as a nonaffiliated candidate and withdrew again.
