UMATILLA — A father and son from Umatilla died Friday, July 19, in Morrow County in a head-on crash.

“The Umatilla School District mourns the loss of Pedro Figueroa Mendoza and his father, Abrahan Figueroa,” the district announced on its Facebook page.

Oregon State Police reported troopers at about 3:10 p.m. July 19 responded to Highway 730 near milepost 173 for a two-vehicle crash.

The preliminary investigation indicated Anthony Daulton, 41, of Las Vegas, was driving a Jeep Wrangler on the westbound side of the freeway and crossed into the eastbound lane for unknown reasons. The Jeep crashed head-on with an eastbound Nissan king cab pickup.

Figueroa, 51, was driving the pickup. His son, Pedro, was a passenger. Oregon State Police reported both died at the scene.

Daulton and his passenger, Clarissa Ann Daulton, also 41, of Las Vegas suffered serious injuries and were transported to a local hospital, according to OSP.

The crash affected traffic on the highway for approximately five hours during the on-scene investigation. The cause of the crash is under investigation.

Pedro was a student at Umatilla High School. The school district reported crisis team members would be at the school “to allow students and families to gather and grieve together.”

The public can leave notes and cards for the family at the school district office, 1001 Sixth St., Umatilla, which the district will share with the family and place in rest with Pedro.

The Umatilla community is rallying to help Linda Figueroa Mendoza, the wife of Abrahan and mother of Pedro, with a donation account at gofundme.com to cover funeral costs and help with the costs of her baby at home.

The fundraiser has brought in more than $13,000 as of the afternoon of July 22.
