Halloween events are everywhere!
REGION-WIDE — There are plenty of Halloween happenings in the works in more than one county. A Halloween Harvest Party is planned at Adams City Park on Saturday, Oct. noon to 3 p.m., with games, treats, and a chili competition. In Enterprise, Cloverleaf Hall will become a Haunted House, Oct. 14-27 at the Wallowa County Fairgrounds (call 541-426-4097 for details). At the Pendleton Library (502 SW Dorion Ave.), younger kids can enjoy a Halloween Story Time on Saturday, Oct. 26, at 11 a.m., and teens can use their detective skills at Crime Scene in Halloween Town on Wednesday, Oct. 30, 5:30-6:30 p.m. (registration required, call 541-966-0380). Pendleton’s annual Halloween Carnival is set for Monday, Oct. 28, 6-8 p.m. at the Pendleton Convention Center with games, a photo booth, treats and more. Bring the whole family in costume. Hermiston Library is hosting Halloween Story Time (and a craft) on Thursday, Oct. 31, at 1 p.m. in city hall, 180 NE Second St.— costumes are encouraged. Kids can trick-or-treat their way down Main Street 3-5 p.m., followed by carnival games 4-6 p.m. at the Hermiston Community Center.
It’s Harvest Festival at the Corn Maze
ECHO — On Sunday, Oct. 27, the Echo Corn Maze will host a Harvest Festival from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. In addition to the 8-acre maze (and smaller ones for the littles), the event will include a scavenger hunt, Halloween costume contest, s’mores, pumpkin carving, and a food truck. Other events throughout the month include $5 Fridays (Oct. 4, 11, 18),

Last call for Eagle Cap Train rides
ELGIN — It’s the last month of the season for the Eagle Cap Excursion Train. October is the perfect time to see the fall foliage along the tracks that run between the mountains of Eastern Oregon. The train follows the Grande Ronde and Wallowa rivers to Minam, then reverses its course for the return trip. Excursions leave each Saturday, departing Elgin at 10 a.m. and returning about 1:30 p.m. Lunch is served along the route. Tickets are $85/adults, $80/seniors, $40/youth, 3-16 (under 3 ride free). Hermiston Library hosts Puzzle Palooza
HERMISTON — Ages 12 and up are invited to test their puzzling skills at the library’s first Puzzle Palooza team competition. On Wednesday, Oct. 16, 6-8 p.m. at Hermiston City Hall’s Council Chambers (180 NE Second St.) teams of up to four people will compete in a casual battle for the puzzler’s crown. Each team gets a 500-piece jigsaw puzzle and exactly two hours to complete it. The event is free, including snacks, beverages, and a prize for the first team to finish.
