Market 87 offers space for artisans, creators

HEPPNER — Crafters, makers, creators, artisans and small home-based businesses are encouraged to check out a new mercantile in Heppner.

Developed through a partnership between the Heppner Chamber of Commerce and the Heppner Community Foundation, Market 87 offers artisans and entrepreneurs an opportunity to build their businesses as part of the chamber. Space is available to display and sell products and wares in the storefront at 133 N. Main St.

September jobless numbers mixed across NE Oregon

SALEM — Unemployment numbers were mixed across the region in September, with two of Northeastern Oregon’s six counties showing slight upticks and four showing modest decreases, according to the latest data from the Oregon Employment Department.

The jobless rate in September was 3.7% in Baker County and 4.2% in Union, both up by one-tenth of a percentage point from the month before.

Elsewhere in the upper right corner of the state, unemployment was down 0.1 percentage point in Grant (4.6%) and Wallowa (3.2%) counties, down by 0.2 percentage point in Umatilla County (3.7%) and down by 0.3 percentage point in Morrow County (3.4%).

When adjusted for normal seasonal fluctuations, the jobless numbers were higher across the board. The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for September was 4.2% in Baker County, 5.7% in Grant, 3.7% in Morrow, 4.0% in Umatilla, 4.6% in Union and 4.3% in Wallowa.

Those percentages were unchanged from August in every Northeastern Oregon county except Grant, which was up 0.2 percentage point for the month.

The number of unemployed workers in September was 264 in Baker County, 146 in Grant, 210 in Morrow, 1,468 in Umatilla, 505 in Union and 119 in Wallowa.
