One of the snappiest Rotary meetings on record was held here at noon today when the Pendleton club entertained the Rotary club of Walla Walla and other visitors here for the football game. Talks were made by President P. L. Campbell, of the University of Oregon and by Dr. S. B. L. Penrose, president of Whitman college. The Walla Walla club put on the program which consisted of musical and humorous numbers and college yells, the latter led by John Shaughmessy, Whitman yell leader. The Walters sisters of Walla Walla delighted with two instrumental numbers and a vocal duet by Wallace Allen and Miss Elizabeth Jones, Miss Lorene Ludwig, accompanist, was enthusiastically received. Mr. Allen sang a solo. A “mind reading” stunt by Jim Wright, Ralph Webster and Lou Romine caused much mirth. The assembly was led in a community sing by Howard Pratt of the Walla Walla club.

In a beautiful candlelight ceremony last Thursday evening at 7 o’clock at the first Baptist church in Denver, Miss Geraldine Watson became the bride of Clenroe Davis of Laramie, Wyo.

The Rev. W. J. Diegelman performed the ceremony before a background of white chrysanthemums, white pompons and green foliage.

The pews were tied with white satin ribbons and white pompons.

The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Ginn of Pendleton, Ore, and the groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Davis of Laramie, Wyo.

The bride chose a semi-formal gown of ice blue satin. A matching ice blue satin tulle hat and silver sandals completed her ensemble. The bride wore a single strand of pearls as her only jewelry, and carried a white bible adorned with an orchid corsage with white satin streamers and sweetheart roses.

District 57 Rep. Bob Jenson wants to continue the job he started in 1997, helping build consensus on issues such as water and education, and working to make state agencies more efficient.

Challenger Vern Kube wants to protect the region’s water by taking a stand against “extremists experiments” such as reservoir drawdowns and the breaching of dams, and push for more accountability of education and transportation funds.

Both say they know the issues and concerns of the region’s residents, having lived in northeast Oregon for decades. Jenson, 67, has lived in Pendleton for 32 years, Kube, 71, for more than 50.

Jenson spent more than 30 years as a high school and community college teacher. After retiring he was elected as a Democrat to represent District 57, which includes most of Umatilla County and north Morrow County, in 1997. He is now registered as an Independent.

Kube has been an independent businessman and owns Kube Lube in Pendleton. The Republican is a member of the county Central Committee and a past precinct committeeman. He’s also a member of Businessman’s Fellowship, U.S.A.
