Motorcycle safety training comes to Eastern Oregon

CORVALLIS Team Oregon, Oregons motorcycle safety program, will deliver its courses this summer and fall to Eastern Oregon.

Team Oregon is a cooperative partnership with the Oregon Department of Transportation and Oregon State University. A news release from the program said the recent spike in fatal motorcycle crashes in Eastern Oregon underscores the need for rider training.

Courses will be available July through October in The Dalles, Pendleton, La Grande, Baker City and Ontario. Students will get training and practice in the critical areas of cornering, emergency braking, evasive maneuvers and visual skills.

Oregon law now requires all new riders younger than 31 to take an approved safety course. Anyone younger than 21 must complete basic rider training to earn a motorcycle endorsement. Riders 21-30 can take the basic or the intermediate rider training course to meet state requirements.
