UMATILLA Edith Allene Edee Ferguson Pettey, 85, of Umatilla died Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2011, at her home. A celebration of life service will be held Friday, Nov. 4 at 1 p.m. at the Trinity United Methodist Church, 590 Elma Ave. S.E., in Salem.

Mrs. Pettey was born Oct. 26, 1925, on a farm east of Liberal, Kan., the third of seven children born to Roy and Ellen Ferguson. In 1928 her parents built a new home, one of the very first farm houses to have indoor plumbing, running water and electricity. At the age of 8 she suffered a ruptured appendix and spent 21 days in the hospital. 

In 1944 she married Ray Pettey in Chicago, Ill., and together they moved west to Oregon. They spent most of their lives in Salem, where she worked as a medical assistant for Dr. Horace McGee for 23 years. She and Ray celebrated 62 years of marriage together.

Mrs. Pettey is survived by her daughter, Janey Gould of Umatilla; sisters Vera Fitzgerald of Umatilla and Esther Earnhardt of Florida; brother Don Ferguson of Salem; one grandson and one granddaughter; and two great-grandchildren.
