On Thursday, Oct.6 protesters gathered along Portland’s waterfront to protest social and economic inequity.

The effort was loosely organized and the message was different from protester to protester, but Portlanders still came out in force — police estimated that more than 5,000 people marched on Thursday.

The group, called Occupy Portland, continued demonstrating, many staying overnight with no plans to leave the downtown park they have overtaken — even working with officials from the Portland Marathon, which happens this weekend.
