Betty J. Udy passed away in Boise, Idaho, on Thursday, June 21, 2018, from health complications.
Betty was born August 10, 1929, to Tillman and Elda Carrier near Erie, Pennsylvania. After graduating high school in 1946 she was employed as a secretary until she met and married Charles Soule, in 1949. She and Charles had three children then moved to Oregon, just outside of Portland, to be near Betty’s mother, Elda. After settling in St. Helens, she and “Charlie” had an additional five children.

Betty was always involved in the community with clubs and organizations such as PTA, School Board, and the United Methodist Church. Around 1969 Betty was hired by PGE and worked in their St. Helens office. She was then promoted and worked at the Trojan Nuclear Plant. Another promotion moved her to Arlington, Oregon, to work at the Boardman Coal Fire Plant where she met and married her second husband, David Johnson.
She and David enjoyed many years of travel, not only domestically but world travel as well. They settled in Pendleton, Oregon, where Betty was employed with Blue Mountain Community College. Betty was engaged in many activities, such as Altrusa, Friends of the Library, Round-Up Ambassadors, the United Methodist Women … to name a few.
After David’s passing in 1988, Betty met and married James Udy in 1989. They enjoyed many lovely years together. After James’ passing Betty moved to Boise, Idaho, to live near family who helped care for her as well.
Betty is survived by her eight children: Jennifer Gump, Lorraine Willmore, Benjamin Soule, Jeannine Hixson, Eileen Rhodes, Billijo Bolton, Corey Soule, and Mark Soule; 14 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
As to Betty’s wishes, she will be inurned at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Oregon, at a later date.
