The artwork of young artists, through age 18, will be featured in an upcoming art show and competition. Entries for ArtWORKz, sponsored by Tamástslikt Cultural Institute, are due by Monday, Dec. 19. Tamástslikt is at 47106 Wildhorse Blvd., located outside of Pendleton.
The exhibit will be in the Tamástslikt gallery from January 9 through February 18, 2012. The works will be judged by professional artists and awards will be presented at an Artists Reception on February 1, 2012.
The competition will include three age categories: 10 and under, 11-14 and 15-18. Judging will be based on artistry, creative vision, technical merit and presentation. Young artists will compete for grand prize, awards of excellence, awards of merit, honorable mentions and best emerging artist. In addition, a peoples choice award will be the result of visitor votes collected Jan. 9-31.
Only one piece of art may be submitted for competition, but for artists who wish to display more, the show features a Sharing Zone in which up to three works may be submitted but not judged in competition.
This will be a great opportunity for young artists to display their artwork in a professional, world-class museum setting, said Randall Melton, collections curator.
The show is open to tribal and non-tribal individuals and groups of collaborating artists. All forms of art media are acceptable, including sculpture, painting, drawing, printmaking, glass, mixed media, photography, digital computer-generated art and fiber art. In addition, entries can be traditional tribal work, such as beadwork, weaving and parfleche painting.
