Jean moved to Pendleton in 1956. She was married to Al Spitz, a longtime Hermiston and Pendleton resident. She lived and worked at the Pendleton Motor Park. Mr. Spitz passed away in November of 1963.
Jean continued to work at the Motor Park until 1971. She was then employed by the Pendleton School District as the food service supervisor at the high school. During her tenure, Jean and her crew made thousands of chocolate chip cookies for the students and faculty.
In the early ’70s she married Jay Cook, a longtime friend. Mr. Cook passed away in 1984 and she continued to live at 911 S.E. Byers until she moved to Spokane to be with her family in 2012.
Jean passed away August 18th in Spokane. She was with family members.
She is survived by her son David Gibbs, daughter-in-law Jeanne, stepsons Dick Cook of Walla Walla and Bill Cook of Hayden Lake, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
There will be a Celebration of Life event September 20th, at 1 p.m., at the Pendleton Eagles Lodge. Please join us for lunch and remembering.
