Shearers Foods Inc. announced Wednesday a new plant manager has been named for their Hermiston facility.

John Kappelman began working at the plant during the last week of August, said Melissa Shearer, Shearers Foods communications vice president.

For that plant, he would be new eyes on the plant, Shearer said. He has the skills from successful jobs in the past … and new ideas about management style.

He also brings a track record of continuous improvement, associate engagement and innovation with him to Hermiston, according to a Shearers press release.

Kappelman has worked 20 years in the food industry. He last worked as plant manager for Schwebel Baking Co. of Youngstown, Ohio, according to the company announcement.

He earned his bachelors degree in psychology at Kansas State University, then went on to obtain a Master of Business Administration at the University of Iowa, Shearer said.
