Interstate 84 closed due to fog, slick conditions

The westbound lanes of Interstate 84 between Baker City and Pendleton remain closed to all vehicles Monday evening due to thick fog and slippery driving conditions. Trucks aren’t allowed on the freeway between Ontario and Pendleton in the westbound lanes.

Eastbound lanes of the highway were closed earlier in the day on Cabbage Hill, but reopened in the afternoon. Tom Strandberg, spokesman with the Oregon Department of Transportation, said the worst conditions are on Cabbage Hill, where visibility was reduced to 50 feet. Winter conditions are expected to continue to affect travel.

ODOT advises travelers using detour routes to stay on main highways if possible and use caution if following GPS navigation that may lead to remote roads not serviced in wintertime. For updates, visit www.tripcheck.com.
