Cheri Rhinhart, director of information technology at InterMountain Education Service District since 2005, recently earned the Certified Education Technology Leader designation.

Awarded by the Consortium for School Networking, the certification signifies that Rhinhart has mastered the knowledge and skills needed to bring 21st century technology to kindergarten through 12th grade school systems. Nationwide, about 233 individuals have the certification, including four in Oregon.

To become certified, candidates must demonstrate experience in the education technology field and pass a comprehensive examination based on 10 identified skill areas. After certification is earned, the candidate must complete 60 hours of professional development activities every three years to maintain the designation.

Rhinhart said educational technology is ever-changing. The special designation, she said, assists in keeping the department current, which results in providing the best technology environment for students.

InterMountain Education Service District serves nearly 23,000 students in 18 school districts across Umatilla, Morrow, Union and Baker counties. For more information, contact Michele Madril, communications specialist, at 541-966-3115 or michele.madril@imesd.k12.or.us.
