Pendleton was in darkness last night for thirty minutes as a result of a fire at Adams. The local office of the Pacific Power and Light Company received a call from Adams about 8:30 o’clock stating that the sub-station at Adams was on fire. A crew of men rushed to Adams at once where the pole near the John Adams home had taken fire from a wire off the insulator. This, in turn had caught the sub-station on fire. When the light men reached Adams a wire carrying 11,000 volts of electricity was hanging within four feet of the ground. The top of the pole which carries the power from Adams was cut off and Adams was without lights most of the night. The wires carrying the Pendleton juice were repaired in a short time. A new pole will be installed at the scene of the fire today.

Lt. C.T. Jessup Jr., in charge of the operations division of the Pendleton Police Department, filed his resignation from the department with city manager Rudy Enbysk today. He issued a release to the news media and to the police chief, Ernest Gallaher, and suggested an investigation of the operations of the police department by the city manager and council. It was understood that Jessup’s resignation followed a meeting of 13 police officers, all of rank below sergeant, who requested that he be relieved of his command. It was generally believed by observers at city hall that the resignation and request resulted from personality conditions and did not in any way reflect on the integrity of the police department or its officers and men.
