John Clifford Lovell was born June 28, 1950, in Roseburg, Oregon, to parents Donald Clifford and Mary Hermine (Laughlin) Lovell. He died at his home in Pendleton, Oregon, on Friday, February 19, 2016, at the age of 65.
John lived briefly in Eugene and Echo, Oregon, before his family moved to Pendleton. He graduated from Pendleton High School in 1968, and graduated from Eastern Oregon State College in La Grande in 1973.

John worked for the US Forest Service in the late 1970s as a civil engineering technician. In the early 1980s John worked at the Eastern Oregon Hospital & Training Center as a psychiatric aide. John also worked for the Blue Mountain Economic Development Council as an energy program coordinator for a five-county area in Eastern Oregon. In the early 1990s he returned to the U.S. Forest Service as a forestry technician. John worked briefly in the late 1990s with the Foster Grandparents and Senior Companions programs. He also worked in property maintenance until retiring in 2012.
On November 24, 1984, he married Roxi Newland in Friday Harbor, Washington.
John was passionate about soccer. He played soccer at Eastern Oregon State College and then later on many city club teams. He enjoyed watching the junior high and high school soccer teams, and was glad to see soccer gaining popularity in the United States. He also enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, backpacking, mushroom picking, and camping.
John is survived by his wife Roxi of Pendleton, Oregon, and his sister Donna Lovell of Mountlake Terrace, Washington. He was preceded in death by his parents and an older brother, Paul Scott Lovell.
