Mountaineer claims decathlon title

HERMISTON — Ryan Rosenau of Eastern Oregon University and Tiana Thomas of College of Idaho won the Cascade Collegiate Conference Multi-Event Championships at Kennison Field on Friday.
Rosenau increased his lead in the decathlon by winning his fifth event to start the second day. In the 110 meter hurdles, Roseanu ran a time of 14.93, to collect 858 points.
He then placed fourth in the discus (98-3.5) and pole vault (12-7.5), and continued to add points in javelin (151-8) and the 1,500-meter run (4:40.69) for a total of 6,687.
Daniel Brattain and Seth Gretz, both of Oregon Tech, finished second and third with 6,152 points and 6,129 points, respectively. Jason Bracken of Corban finished fourth with 5,650 points.
Thomas continued a streak of three-straight seasons with an Idaho heptathlon champion at the two-day event, and claimed first place with 4,517 points — just 61 points off the school record.
Her highest-scoring events came with a win in the 800 meters (2:24.11) and a third-place in the long jump (16 feet, 5 inches). Concordia’s Holly Pfaff was second with 4,328 points.
