HERMISTON In an effort to combat summer slide, the Hermiston Public Library kicked off registration for its annual summer reading program Monday at the library, 235 E. Gladys Ave. Students of all ages are encouraged to participate in the program and earn prizes for reading books over the summer. Registration for elementary school students runs through June 30.

Participants will receive a booklet with dates and times for events such as Beaver Search and I Spy along with a reading log. Children who complete their reading log and turn it in on the last day of the program are eligible for prizes.

The summer teen reading program will begin July 7 with registration for students in middle and high school. All teen activities will involve food.

Special book bags will be available at sign-up while supplies last. For more information, contact the library at 541-567-2882.
