An Oregonian with ties to Libya says friends and family there are condemning the death of U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens.

Ahmed Abraibesh owns the Clogs-N-More chain of shoe shops in the Portland area. But he grew up in Benghazi and has many friends and family in Lybia.

He says Stevens was well regarded because of what he did to help them during the revolution.

“He was a great man, a good friend of Lybia and the Lybian people and he’s a great loss to all of us.”

Abraibesh says he’s been online gauging the reaction of Lybians.

“I didn’t read one thing that was in favor of this action. People there are so angry and they said this is not how we should treat the people who supported us in our need.”

Stevens died along with three other Americans when an angry mob stormed the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi.
