Because they registered as man and wife at the Alta House Saturday night, and last night under different names, Douglas McDonald, a well known young man of this city, and Mrs. H.H. Hannon were given heavy sentences this morning in police court by Judge Fitz Gerald. Fifty dollars or 25 days was the choice given the former and $25 or 12 days the latter. Both went to jail. Twelve statements supporting the proposed South Route relocation of Highway 30 to bypass Pendleton, and two statements questioning future connection of the freeway with Highway 11 to Milton-Freewater were presented at a Tuesday afternoon public hearing with the Oregon State Highway Commission at the Vert. About 100 persons attended the hearing, at which Pendleton officials were commended for cooperation without parallel anywhere else in the state by Kenneth Fridley, highway commissioner for Eastern Oregon. Interchanges are planned at Airport Road, the intersection of Highway 395 at the base of the hill leading to Sherwood Heights, and one extending throughout the S.E. 4th and 5th area to S.E. 9th. A half interchange will be located near Theater Road.
