At the end of the month, Prison Blues will no longer have a place on Pendletons Main Street.
The clothing lines brick and mortar store, Correction Connection, is closing due to the retirement of owner Therese McMichael.
However, the Prison Blues work jeans and denim apparel will still be available in cyberspace. McMichael, 61, will continue to sell clothes made by local prison inmates online at www.prisonblues.net.
About 80 percent of Prison Blues sales are already made online. According to McMichael, the foot traffic through the store has remained the same since 2007.
We certainly get a few regulars walking in, but most people just use the website, McMichael said.
Since 1989, all Prison Blues items are made by inmates at Eastern Oregon Correctional Institute. McMichael took over the store in 2007 after her previous employer, Cloughs on Main, closed and Hamleys Steakhouse took its place.
I liked the idea of helping people who have made a mistake get back on their feet, McMichael said.
Correction Connection, at 363 Main Street, will remain open through Dec. 31.
