Rebecca Lomnicky and David Brewer will team up for the performance Saturday, Dec. 28 at 7 p.m. Lomnicky is an international fiddle champion and Brewer is with the popular Celtic band Mollys Revenge. In addition, Peter Willis, a guitar accompanist, rounds out the Celtic trio sound. Tickets are $10 and will be sold at the door or in advance by calling 541-278-9201.
Lomnicky and Brewer have spent time delving into the traditions of their instruments, as well as living and studying in the highlands of Scotland. In merging the music, they have created a sound thats energetic and full of passion.
Willis began playing Celtic music with Lomnicky in 2006 and quickly fell in love with the driving rhythms and lyrical melodies. In 2008, Brewer joined them on a regular basis. As the trio has played together, theyve forged a friendship brought about by their love of the music.
Lomnicky began playing classical violin and piano at age 5 and discovered Scottish fiddle music a few years later. In 2009, she won the 20th Annual Glenfiddich International Scottish Fiddle Championship. The invitation-only championship is compared to a GRAMMY Award in the fiddling world.
Brewer is a multi-instrumentalist who plays the Irish penny-whistle and bodhran frame-drum, but its the Scottish bagpipes where his energy and charisma shine through. He was a key musician for the soundtrack of the PBS documentary Andrew Jackson: Good, Evil & the Presidency.
Willis has been in demand as an acoustic guitar accompanist throughout the Pacific Northwest. Surrounded by music while growing up, Brewer is adept in jazz, bluegrass, Celtic and acoustic roots music.
