PRINEVILLE – Shannon Lee Zimmerlee Halvorson, 20, of Prineville, died Friday, June 13, 2003, at Corvallis after suffering a fatal head injury at Albany while attending a conference for the Volunteer Fire Fighters Association.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Assembly of God Church and Crook County Christian School in Prineville. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Thursday and Friday at the Prineville Funeral Home, 199 N.E. 10th, in Prineville, for viewing.

Mrs. Halvorson was born Aug. 12, 1982, at La Grande, to Richard and Heidi Buce Zimmerlee. During her early years, she lived with her family at Rome, Hermiston and Monument, where they farmed. The family settled at Terrebonne where she spent her youth. She was home schooled until the fifth grade then attended Crook County Christian School

In 1999, she married Jeff Halvorson.

After high school, she attended Central Oregon Community College where she earned her medical assisting certificate. At the time of her death she was working for Pioneer Health Care Center and had worked for Central Oregon Family Medical Clinic.

During the past year she had been a volunteer at the Prineville Fire Department and had completed her wildland firefighter training. She enjoyed the learning experience and camaraderie of her fellow firefighters. She also had volunteered at the Deschutes County Shots for Tots, Crook County blood drive and was involved with the 4-H Equestrian Club.

She enjoyed visiting her mother and family on Rudio Mountain in Alaska, but she truly loved visiting the ocean. She enjoyed snowboarding, cooking for her family and friends, the outdoors, horses, fishing and boating.

She was said to be a devoted mother to her 3-year-old son, Garrett Scott.

Survivors include her son, her husband, her mother and stepfather, Heidi and Mike McCrary of Anchorage, Alaska; her father, Richard Zimmerlee of Terrebonne; brother, Jamie Zimmerlee of John Day; grandmother, Barbara J. Weatherford Buce of Seattle; grandparents, James and Vivian Zimmerlee of Prineville; several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
