HERMISTON – A funeral service for Lance Cpl. James “Jimmy” Benton Huston Jr. will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 10, in the gymnasium at Hermiston High School followed by military burial at Hermiston Cemetery.

Lance Cpl. James “Jimmy” Benton Huston Jr., 22, of Hermiston, died Friday, July 2, 2004, while serving with the U.S. Marine Corps in Iraq.
He was born Sept. 14, 1981, at Walla Walla, to James and Shirley DeRuwe Huston. A lifelong resident of Hermiston, he graduated from Hermiston High School in 2000.
On Oct. 10, 2001, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps and was on his second tour of duty in Iraq at the time of his death.
He received the Combat Action Ribbon, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, the Global War On Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, the National Defense Service Medal, the Presidential Unit Citation, and will receive the Good Conduct Medal.
While in school he was active in 4-H and FFA livestock projects. He enjoyed hunting, both archery and rifle, snowboarding, drawing, music, and his lifted Chevy 4×4.
Survivors include his parents, Jim and Shirley Huston of Hermiston; grandparents, Charles and Virgie Huston of St. James, Mo.; brothers, Matthew Huston of Hermiston, presently serving in the U.S. Navy Mobile Construction Battalion at Port Hueneme, Calif., and Shane Huston of Newberg; sister, Shannon Davis of Hillsville, Va; two nieces, two nephews, several aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by grandparents, Elaine DeRuwe Scott and Mervin DeRuwe.
