PENDLETON – Keystone RV officials on Friday praised employees, their families and the community for the quick response to help move and save equipment during a small fire Thursday night at the Pendleton facility.

Human Resources Manager Ken Julian said Friday that “we experienced just wonderful support from the community and our employees” during a fire on a routing table at around 7:15 p.m. Thursday.

Julian said Friday the company, located at 3000 Westgate, has not yet determined an exact cost of the damages sustained from the fire, but that “there was minimal damage to the building.” He noted that some insulation was singed by flames. “All three pressure lines were up and running again this morning.”

Pendleton Fire Marshal Jack Remillard attributed the fire’s minor damage to a working sprinkler system that alerted fire officials.

Remillard also determined the fire started when a spark from a blade on the router that hit a metal guide landed in a pile of wood chips in a box kept below the routing table. Normally, that box of wood chips is emptied at the end of each day, Remillard said, but for some reason this particular one wasn’t on Thursday. The spark smoldered, later igniting a fire.

Julian said employees had already left for the day when the fire started Thursday night and that there were no injuries.

Two similar fires occurred at Fleetwood RV in Pendleton this month, but Keystone has not had such problems.
