Pendleton Quiltworks is one of 11 quilt shops featured in the Fall 2012 issue of Quilt Sampler magazine published by Better Homes and Gardens.
Pendleton Quiltworks owner Rachelle Doherty said the business at 138 S.E. Court Ave., Pendleton, will celebrate the inclusion in Quilt Sampler with an open house Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. She also will have copies of Quilt Sampler for sale, along with kits for the project quilt in the magazine.
Quilt Sampler, published twice a year, has been profiling quilt shops in North America for 15 years, according to a company statement. Quilt shops submitted a detailed application that includes history, charitable work, teaching schedules and quilting design philosophies. A panel of quilt experts sifts through nearly 3,000 applications to select 10 shops for each issue and revisits one business the magazine previously featured.
Quilt Sampler sent a team to interview Doherty and photograph her shop for a multi-page profile that will appear in the issues. Each shop also designs an original quilt, and the full-sized patterns for the quilts are in the magazine.
Doherty opened Pendleton Quiltworks in 2003 and moved to the current location in 2006. This is the first time Quilt Sampler has selected the business.
