PENDLETON – Yvonne Jean Scott-Fowler, 72, a nurse’s aide for many years, died Wednesday at Willowbrook Terrace.

A dressing ceremony will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday at Burns Mortuary of Pendleton with viewing to follow. A Washat will be held at 7 p.m. at the Mission Longhouse. Sunrise service will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday at the Longhouse, followed by a funeral at 10 a.m. at the Tutuilla Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow at Agency Cemetery.

Mrs. Scott-Fowler was born on Oct. 25, 1935 in Wapato, Wash. to Rachel Eva VanPelt and Elmer Scott. She was an enrolled member of the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation. She attended Chemewa Indian School in Salem; and Chemeketa Community College and Mt. Hood Community College.

She was on the Happy Canyon court in 1956 and participated in Happy Canyon years later. She was active in Tutuilla Presbyterian Church.

Mrs. Scott-Fowler married Raul Montoya in 1959.

She worked as a nurse’s aide for many years at the Oregon State Hospital in Pendleton and later at Delamarter nursing home in Mission.

Mrs. Scott-Fowler was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Gloria Shillal, Edith Shillal, and Virginia Schell and longtime partner William Fowler.

She is survived by sisters Judith Scott and Helen Morrison of Pendleton, Sylvia Allen of Lapwai, Idaho, Rosemary Scott and Delcie Scott of Warm Springs; brothers, Thomas Shillal of Yakima, Daniel Scott and Elmer “Buzz” Scott of Warm Springs; daughters, Maria Montoya of Pendleton, Josea Angela Montoya of Kansas City, Kan., and son Glavis Wagner of Pendleton, six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Burns Mortuary of Pendleton is in charge of arrangements.
