PILOT ROCK – The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality fined Kinzua Resources $1,400 for violating a condition of its air quality permit.

According to a DEQ news release, Kinzua has to submit a permit renewal application at least 12 months before the current permit expires. Kinzua’s permit expires on Oct. 1, and the company didn’t submit its application by the deadline. Kinzua also informed the DEQ about the violation on Nov. 21, 2008.

Kinzua has a Title V air quality permit, which the DEQ generally issues to the largest stationary air polluters in Oregon. The DEQ’s procedures allow the company 20 days to either pay or appeal the penalty.

In January, the DEQ issued a total of $51,719 in penalties, the largest of $20,422 against Harrah’s Truck Detail in Portland for operating a wastewater system without a permit.
