The Joke

What do you do with a 6-year-old steer?

Apparently not much except let him continue to grow. Terry Dirks of Pendleton and Tom Rugg of Pilot Rock are currently pasturing a steer they have named “The Joke” on Tutuilla Creek Road across from the Bowman Ranches.

According to Dorys Grover, who snapped a picture of the steer, he weighs in around 1,700 pounds and has a horn spread of 6 feet. Dirks and Rugg acquired the steer as a calf and have kept it around ever since. It had been pastured at D & R Cattle Company Ranches in Pilot Rock.
