EUGENE – The University of Oregon recently held its annual awards ceremony to honor student achievements.

Recipients for more than 20 awards and scholarships are selected by UO faculty, staff and students representing many areas on campus, including housing, athletics, multicultural academic support, international programs, Greek life, student life, Erb Memorial Union, Associated Students of the University of Oregon (ASUO), and various academic departments.

Hermiston natives Leslee Chan, a senior majoring in English and humanities, and Trevor Whitbread, a senior majoring in Spanish and humanities, were awarded the Phi Beta Kappa award. Membership in the nation’s oldest liberal arts academic honorary society is offered to students with excellent grades, who are of good character and who have completed the majority of their course work in liberal arts.

Members must have demonstrated considerable breadth in their academic work. The University of Oregon has the only Phi Beta Kappa chapter in the Oregon University System.
