Morrow County’s special election features several contested races

MORROW COUNTY — Port commissioners, health district board members and other incumbents face challengers in the May 20 special election in Morrow County.
Port of Morrow Commissioner Rick Stokoe faces two challengers in the Position 1 race, J. Fletcher Hobbs, and Heather Lee Ann Bishop. Port Commissioner Joel Peterson in the Position 3 race has a challenge from Abe McNamee.
For Position 2, Port of Morrow Commission President Joe Taylor is not seeking reelection, while Daniel Kerns and Raymond Seastone are running. John Kilkenny initially ran for Position 2 but has since withdrawn.
In the Morrow County Health District, candidates are competing for four board positions. Incumbent Scott Ezell faces Annetta L. Spicer for Position 1. Incumbent and Chair Diane Kilkenny in Position 2 is vying against two candidates, Molly F. Rhea and Russ Nichols. For Position 3, incumbent Donna Rietmann faces Janet Greenup. Incumbent Laura Torres in Position has two challengers, Raymond Seastone and Jason Hanna.
Incumbent Chair Bob Vandecar is running for reelection to Position 3 in the Irrigon Rural Fire Protection District and faces Joey Munkers. Burrel Cooley is not seeking reelection. Stephen Henthorn and Paul Martin are competing for Position 5, while Tom Arbuckle and Evan Purves are vying for Position 1.
In the Boardman Fire & Rescue District, the at-large candidates are incumbent Lisa Pratt, while Kenneth Browne and Luis Medel Rodriguez are not seeking reelection. Candidates Michael Sowa, Stan Chaffin and James Ratzlaff also are vying for at-large seats.
For the at-large positions on the Ione Library District Board, incumbents Deb Campbell and Margo Sherer are running for reelection, while Bobbi Childers is not. Elizabeth Peterson and Ann Clabaugh also are vying for the at-large seats.
And in the Boardman Park & Recreation District, the at-large race features incumbents Norma Ayala and John Christy, with Rick Weiss also vying for one of the seats.
These elections, held every odd-numbered year on the third Tuesday in May, determine board members for local school districts, cemetery districts, service districts, fire districts, parks and recreation districts and water control districts.
