SURE hosts river cleanup with tree giveaway in Pendleton

PENDLETON — To commemorate Earth Day and Arbor Day, the Stewards of the Umatilla River Environment announced its annual spring river cleanup is Saturday, April 26, along the Pendleton River Parkway.
SURE volunteers and members of the Pendleton Lions Club invite volunteers to meet at 9 a.m. at Roy Raley Park, 1205 SW Court Ave., Pendleton. The event is held in conjunction with the annual tree giveaway hosted by Pendleton Parks and Recreation and the U.S. Forest Service.
Bring gloves, if available, otherwise, they will be provided. Participants are advised to wear sturdy shoes and long pants. Families are welcome; volunteers under 18 must be supervised.
Free tree seedlings can be picked up between 9:30 a.m. to noon at the park. Species available include mockorange, chokecherry, Douglas fir, river birch, gingko, American sweetgum and northern red oak.
