PENDLETON — Those interested in animals and animal welfare are invited to attend the Pioneer Humane Society’s annual meeting. The nonprofit organization operates the Pendleton Animal Welfare Shelter.

The meeting is Thursday, April 10, 5:30 p.m. at The Saddle Restaurant & Lounge, 2220 SE Court Ave., Pendleton. Agenda items include a message from PAWS President Melissa Nathan, a renewal of directors and a director vote. The regular board meeting will follow.

PAWS was founded in 1975 by a group of area residents dedicated to helping homeless, lost, and at-risk animals and pet owners in Pendleton and surrounding areas.

PAWS Vice President Shaindel Beers said the nonprofit organization can benefit from a variety of people as board members and/or volunteers. Those with animal or veterinary experience, marketing or fundraising knowledge or skills in landscaping and home repair can help the local shelter.

“An animal shelter board needs people with diverse backgrounds and talents,” Beers said. “If you love animals and want to help, please ask where you could fit in.”
