St. John's and Grace and Mercy Lutheran invite the public to a Shrove Tuesday pancake supper March 4, 2025, at St. John’s in Hermiston.
HERMISTON — The congregations of St. John’s Episcopal Church and Grace and Mercy Lutheran invite the community to join them for a traditional pancake supper for Shrove Tuesday. The event is March 4, 5 p.m. at the church, 665 E. Gladys Ave.
According to a press release from Rev. Chuck Barnes, Shrove Tuesday, sometimes called Fat Tuesday — also the start of Mardi Gras — precedes Ash Wednesday in liturgical traditions. The Shrove Tuesday meal is symbolic of cleaning out all of the “fat foods” from the pantry in preparation for Lent, which begins Wednesday, March 5.
“We observe this tradition with a pancake supper,” Barnes said.
