WESTON — East Umatilla Fire and Rescue firefighters contained a house fire in Weston while dealing with challenging conditions.
The fire district in a statement reported it responded Monday night, Feb.17, to a structure fire on Highway 204 and Giger Lane that displaced three people. The first unit arrived at 10:05 p.m. to find the house and shop were fully engulfed in flames. A live electrical line was arcing, and the metal roof materials made fighting the fire more difficult.
Despite freezing temperatures, an ambulance call during the fire and limited staffing, the fire rescue team managed to contain the blaze while protecting other exposures and vehicles, according to the fire district.
The Umatilla Tribal Fire Department sent a water tanker to assist, and the Red Cross contacted the three people whom the fire displaced. No one was injured.
East Umatilla Fire and Rescue reported the cause of the fire is under investigation.
