UMATILLA COUNTY — Umatilla County Fire District No. 1 earned an award in honor of its public service accomplishments.
The district was recognized with an Outstanding Special District Program Award. According to a press release, the award is given to districts for their “innovative projects and programs, outstanding safety, public information, public involvement in a district decision-making process, and outstanding achievement.”
The fire district was one of three statewide to earn the recognition, taking the slot for districts with 26 or more employees, on Feb. 8 during the 2025 Special Districts Association of Oregon’s annual conference in Bend. The organization represents more than 920 special districts in the state.
Each year, the SDAO Awards Program honors member districts for accomplishments which allow them to provide better service to the public and gives recognition to individuals who have greatly contributed to the success of their special district.
Nominations were collected throughout the year and reviewed by the SDAO Awards Committee, and the winners were selected using a scoring matrix.
