ODFW announces winners of annual stamp art contests

Buck Spencer, of Junction City, claimed first place with his portrayal of the California quail in the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife’s annual upland game bird stamp art contest.

SALEM — The winning artwork was selected recently for the 2025 waterfowl, upland game bird, and habitat conservation stamp art contests.

This year’s entries were judged at the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife headquarters in Salem on Oct. 29 by a panel of independent judges. The winning artwork will be featured on collector stamps and other promotional items that support wildlife and habitat conservation efforts in Oregon.

Twenty-one entries were received for the upland game bird, showcasing the California quail. For the waterfowl stamp, 14 entries depicted Barrow’s goldeneye, ring-necked duck, and white-winged scoter. Additionally, 19 entries showcased select strategy species for the habitat conservation contest.

In the waterfowl stamp category, first place went to Jeffrey Klinefelter, of Etna Green, Indiana, for his artwork featuring a ring-necked duck.

For the upland game bird category, Buck Spencer, of Junction City, claimed first place with his portrayal of the California quail.

Terri Neal, of Portland, secured first place in the habitat conservation category with her depiction of an American pika.

Each first-place artist will receive a prize of $2,000. The winning artwork will serve as the face of the 2025 collector stamps and various promotional items, with proceeds from sales dedicated to vital habitat improvement, research, surveys and conservation projects.
