Boardman voters support charter update

- Boardman voters on Nov. 5, 2024, approved a measure to update the city's charter.
BOARDMAN — Boardman voters approved an update to the city’s charter.
According to the Oregon Secretary of State’s unofficial election results Tuesday night, Nov. 5, Measure 25-103 is passing 456-274 votes.
The city’s charter dates to 1985. The measure replaces the city’s charter with a modern version.
The new charter is based on the League of Oregon Cities Model Charter but keeps provisions fundamental and characteristic to Boardman.
When modern charter retains the city’s form of government with a mayor and six councilors but also changes the following:
- Sets additional qualifications for elected officials.
- Clarifies the process for filling council vacancies and tie votes.
- Removes debt limits and requires debt limits to conform with state law.
- Removes city recorder from appointive offices.
