Elections and much more

Published 9:00 am Saturday, October 19, 2024

Dear readers,

Ballots for the November election are in mailboxes, and the East Oregonian and related papers are wrapping up stories on candidates and measures. Collectively, we have so much there is no way to get it all into print.

That’s why we have websites.

You can find candidate Q&As and reporting on state races on our websites: East Oregonian, Baker City Herald, Blue Mountain Eagle, Hermiston Herald, The Observer and Wallowa County Chieftain.

For our communities, there were plenty of nonelection happenings as well.

Denny’s and Shari’s, two well-established family dining restaurants in Pendleton closed the same week. We’ve reported on those closures, but reporter Yasser Marte is working on a report on what this means to the community and local restaurant scene. We’ll have that coming out in the next week or so.

Bennett Hall at the Blue Mountain Eagle reported on a stroll down memory lane with former child star Johnny Whitaker visit to Grant County, where he filmed the Disney movie “Napoleon and Samantha” in 1971.

And in another moving-related feature. Mike McInally reported on the filming of “Breakup Season,” in La Grande.

And Jayson Jacobi at the Baker City Herald has a report on a local man who helped morticians following Hurricane Helene in North Carolina.

We also received some more reader feedback about what to keep, ditch or change in the EO. We’ll evaluate that and might make changes here and there in print and on our websites.

As always, thank you for reading, and if you have yet to subscribe, please consider it.
