Boardman Farmers Market prepares for Labor Day Fiesta
BOARDMAN — The Boardman Farmers Market will close out its 2024 season with the Labor Day Fiesta.
The event is Monday, Sept. 2, 5-8 p.m. at Boardman Marina Park, 1 NE Marine Drive. It will include music, food and fun.
Also, PNW Performance is hosting a car show. Entry is $5 with proceeds supporting the Riverside High School Blue Collar Scholarship. For questions, call 541-561-0286.
There are no vendor fees for the final market, however, people are asked to register in advance.

Play Music on the Porch Day is Aug. 31 in Baker City
BAKER CITY — Powder River Music Revue, in partnership with Broadcast Baker/KBZR, will host Play Music on the Porch Day on Saturday, Aug. 31, at the Powder River Pavilion in Geiser-Pollman Park, along Campbell Street in Baker City.
This is the second year Baker City will participate in this event, which is organized around the world on the same day. The idea, according to playmusicontheporchday.com, is this: “What if for one day everything stopped? And we all just listened to the music.”
Music begins at 1 p.m. and features Infinity (Patrick McWeeney and Donnie Counts), Jeremy Clawson, Marvin Sundean, Rory Noble, Camille Hearne, John Coop, Music from the Celestial Realm, Mitchell Paul Stephens, Lindianne Sappington and David Paige.
Most sets will be 20 minutes, and the day ends with a jam session, open to anyone, 5-6 p.m.
Funshine Open accepting registration for golf tournament
BOARDMAN — The Funshine Open golf tournament will raise money for the Community Women’s Club of Irrigon and Boardman.
In its seventh year, the event is Sept. 21 with check-in at 9 a.m. at Marker 40 Golf Club, 78873 Toms Camp Road. Players will tee off with the horn blast at 10 a.m.
The four-person scramble costs $260 per foursome or $65 for individuals, who will be added to a team. The entry includes green fees for 18 holes, pastries, lunch and prizes. It is open to men and women of all skill levels.

Friends of democracy invited to Labor Day picnic
JOSEPH — A Labor Day picnic is being planned for Wallowa County residents “who prefer democracy to autocracy,” according to event organizers.
The picnic is scheduled for noon to 3 p.m. Monday, Sept. 2, at the Ice Creek Shelter at Wallowa Lake State Park.
Attendees are asked to bring a covered dish to share, plates and utensils, along with “your sense of humor, your kindness (and) your open heart,” according to the picnic invitation.

Boardman Senior Center seeks volunteer breakfast cook
BOARDMAN — If you’re passionate about cooking and have a desire to give back to the community, the Boardman Senior Center needs your help.
The center is searching for a volunteer cook to prepare hash browns and different styles of eggs, as well as some preparation tasks. The breakfast is held on the first Saturday of each month from 6-10:30 a.m. at 100 Tatone St.
