Umatilla-Morrow County Farm Bureau announces scholarships, awards

PENDLETON — The Umatilla-Morrow County Farm Bureau awarded three $1,000 scholarships to local graduating seniors. The recipients were chosen from a field of 14 candidates:

Julianne Jones, a Pendleton High School graduate, plans to major in aviation technology at Utah State University and hopes to pursue a career as a fixed-wing wildfire pilot for the U.S. Forest Service.

Adelynn Stewart, a McLoughlin High School graduate, plans to pursue a degree in veterinary medicine and animal science.

Cameron Proudfoot, a Heppner High School graduate, will pursue a degree in mechanical engineering with a minor in agricultural business.

In addition, those receiving the Anne-Marie Moss Excellence in Agriculture Award and their field of study are Haylie Peterson, agriculture business; Paul Reed, agriculture production/crops; Damon Maddox, agricultural machinery; Isabella Orr, agriculture production/livestock; and Samantha Davenport, precision agriculture.

Community Women’s Club of Irrigon, Boardman awards scholarships

MORROW COUNTY — The Community Women’s Club of Irrigon and Boardman announced it awarded five scholarships to graduating seniors from Irrigon High School and Boardman’s Riverside High School.

Irrigon students receiving awards are Leah Mueller ($1,500), who plans to major in biology at George Fox University; and Selene Roldan Cardenas ($750), who will major in elementary education at Western Oregon University.

And those from Boardman are Estefani Madrigal Mendoza ($1,500), who will study nursing at Blue Mountain Community College; Wyatt Browne ($750), who plans to study business and marketing at Oregon State University; and Monserrat Pacheco ($750), who will major in biology at OSU.

8 Weston-McEwen grads receive Ferguson scholarships

WESTON — Eight Weston-McEwen High School graduates received awards from the Earl and Jane Ferguson Scholarship program.

Administered by the Blue Mountain Community Foundation, the 2024 Ferguson scholarship awards totaled $14,000. According to a press release, the recipients and educational plans of those receiving $2,000 are Mazon Langford (Eastern Oregon University, exercise/health science), Sabine Wong-Boulanger (Brown University, biology), Keira Denny (University of Idaho, health sciences), Mackenzie Aldrich (Walla Walla Community College, early childhood education), Emma Calvert (Oregon State University, marine biology/business), and Helen William (Oregon State University, biology/health sciences). Those receiving $1,000 scholarships are EvaLena Lieuallen (Walla Walla Community College, nursing), and Brooke Harley (University of Oregon, general social sciences).

PEO Chapter CM awards Alison Furnish scholarships

PENDLETON — PEO Chapter CM of Pendleton announced it will award $1,500 scholarships to a pair of local nursing students for the 2024-25 school year.

The Alison Furnish Memorial Scholarship program disburses yearly awards to area women who are pursuing a career in the medical field. The 2024 recipients are Abigail Thorne, who is studying at Eastern Oregon University; and Jade Davidson, who is attending Blue Mountain Community College. Both are Pendleton High School graduates.

8 Umatilla High grads receive AAOT degrees

UMATILLA — In addition to graduating with the Class of 2024, eight Umatilla High School seniors earned their Associate of Arts Oregon Transfer degrees.

Alexis Armenta, Braelyn Cragun, Miles Franks, Diego Loera, Dayami Nava, Angel Quiroga-Vazquez, Maddisyn Rico and Jonathan Rome received their diplomas June 12 during the Blue Mountain Community College commencement ceremony in Pendleton.

Hermiston student graduates from Oregon Connections Academy

SCIO — Oregon Connections Academy announced the online public school celebrated its 2024 graduates during a commencement ceremony on June 8 at Scio High School. Domenic Mccoy, of Hermiston, was among the 102 seniors graduating from the virtual school.

According to a press release, nearly half of the graduating class plan to attend colleges or universities, 17% will enter the workforce and 15% are pursuing vocational training.

George Fox University announces spring 2024 academic honors

NEWBERG — The spring 2024 commencement ceremony at George Fox University included Ellaynah Brown, of Pendleton, who received a bachelor of arts in business administration.

In addition, Brown was named to the dean’s list for the spring 2024 semester for earning a grade point average of 3.5 or higher. Other local students receiving the academic honor are Becca Edmonds and Elizabeth Reeder, both nursing students from Pendleton; and Blane Peal, an engineering student from Weston.

Oregon Charter Academy announces Class of 2024 graduates

SALEM — Nearly 320 students, including Lucas Seibel and Cara Westing, both of Hermiston, graduated from Oregon Charter Academy.

The online school held a commencement ceremony for the Class of 2024 on June 8 at the Oregon State Fairgrounds in Salem.

Pendleton Foundation Trust announces 2024 scholarship awards

PENDLETON — The Pendleton Foundation Trust announced its 2024 scholarship awards May 29 during the Pendleton High School Scholarship Night. The awards, recipients and future plans are:

Jiggs and Maxine Fisk Memorial Scholarship, $3,000/renewable for a second year: Manuel Lopez (University of Arizona, nursing); Lee and Louella Dudek Memorial Scholarships, $2,400/renewable for a second year: Hailey Schmidt (MiraCosta College, nursing) and Alison Spratling (Oregon State University, crop/soil sciences and Spanish); Pendleton Alumni Scholarship, $2,500/year, up to four years: Kylee Nelson (OSU/Linn Benton Community College, occupational therapy); David Jon Lindberg Memorial Scholarship, $2,500: Ashtyn Larsen (Brigham Young University, chemical engineering); Let ‘er Duck Scholarship, $1,000: Tarin Golsalves (University of Oregon, computer science or media studies); Alan Wyland Memorial Scholarship, $1,000: Abby Foust (Eastern Oregon University, performing arts).
